Switch to Microsoft 365 Family or Microsoft 365 Personal

How to switch subscription plans

How it works:

1.  You buy the Microsoft 365 subscription that you want to switch to using the same Microsoft account as your current subscription.

2.  The remaining days on your current subscription are automatically added to your new subscription.

Here's an example:

Current subscription: You have 6 months left on your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.

New subscription: You buy a 12-month subscription to Microsoft 365 Family using the same Microsoft account as your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.

Result: Your subscription is converted to Microsoft 365 Family and will renew in 18 months, not 12.

Here's what changes when you upgrade to Microsoft 365 Family

  • You can share your subscription with up to 5 other people
  • You and up to 5 other people can install premium Office apps on all your devices. Each person can be signed in to Office on 5 devices at a time.
  • You and up to 5 other people get 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage, per person.
  • You and up to 5 other people get 60 Skype minutes per month, per person.
Here's what changes when you downgrade to Microsoft 365 Personal

  • Your subscription can no longer be shared. Before you switch, please stop sharing your subscription and let users know that they will need to buy or subscribe to Office separately.
  • Your Office apps continue to work on the devices where you're signed in. You can install premium Office apps on all your devices and be signed in to Office on 5 devices at a time.
  • You still get 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage.
  • You still get 60 Skype minutes per month.
